Oh, hi there!

hi-there

Yes, I still exist. I bet you’ve been wondering what the BristolianBackpacker has been up to (or maybe you haven’t, cause you know, life is busy). Here’s a low down for you on my year, where I’ve been, and what’s happening in the future.

I got married

On 29th June 2019, I became Mrs BristolianBackpacker. Turns out, planning a wedding is quite a lot of work, but it was a fantastic day. Guess where we had it? Bristol, of course. Guess what our theme was? Travel, of course. It seemed fitting that about four of the five and a half years that Mitch and I have been together were spent abroad.

It was an amazing day, full of family and friends from across the globe. Felt a lot of love from my husband and everyone else that day, which is what weddings are for.

I got a new job

We moved to Corydon in May 2018 because Mitch got a job here. Then, in May this year, I got myself a new job in London. No more remote working but joining the thousands of London commuters every day. In fact, after working remotely for so long, I actually don’t mind my commute, and I really like my new job.

Why did you stop writing?

I stopped my blog for two main reasons. Even before my new job, I was in a full-time writing role. After sitting at your laptop for 8 hours a day, writing, the last thing you often want to do is sit down and write some more.

(You can expect more BoJack Horseman Gifs because it’s my favourite show.)

Secondly, we stopped travelling long-term. Of course, many successful blogs are about one place, so I’m well aware I could create a great blog about London, South London, Croydon, the UK, etc. But it’s been a busy year. And I lacked motivation.

Why are you motivated now?

Right now I’m on my couch, off work because I’m ill. I’m not great at relaxing so there is only so much watching Netflix I can do before getting bored. And, due to illness, I don’t want to do anything that takes too much energy. I don’t want to say that my 2020 New Year’s resolution will be to pick up my blog again because come on, how many people stick to their New Years resolutions?

(I did warn you there would be more BoJack Horseman GIFs)

I guess motivation comes from a few things. One, I’m feeling quite happy and content with life at the moment (if I stop thinking about politics, the climate crisis and homelessness), and sometimes it’s when you get to a level of happiness that your motivation can go up. In fact, I even joined a gym…FOR THE FIRST TIME EVER. Truth be told, Mitch is spending his free time doing stuff he loves, I spend my free time baking/cooking — one of my new hobbies. But, for the times when I don’t want to spend half an hour grating pumpkin, I want to spend time writing again, for fun.

What will you write about?

I am still BristolianBackper. I will still write about travel. I still have so many thoughts about travelling. We spent two and a half weeks in Thailand for our honeymoon this year, and next year we have a trip to Brussels booked in.

This is me drinking cider in Thailand on my birthday. We’re Bristolian so we will bring cider to any country in the world.

Will anyone read your blog?

Who knows. But hopefully you are, and maybe you’ll tell your friend.

I’ll tell you what, if you’ve read all through this post, comment! If I get no comments, I can’t promise that I’ll stop writing. After all, this blog was mainly for me in the first place. So, let’s go back to the beginning.
