6 Reasons You Should Visit Morelia, Mexico

After visiting the Monarch Butterflies, Mitch and I headed to the town of Morelia in Michoacan. We stayed in a bright, friendly and excellently located hostel, The Only Backpackers Morelia. Lonely Planet calls Morelia the “Oaxaca-waiting-to-happen.” We’ve not been to Oaxaca yet but I presume they mean the beauty has been untapped by the travelling and tourism community. Morelia did not disappoint and I’m so glad we spent some time there. It’s easy to walk around and there are lots of places to see. Here are my six top reasons you should visit Morelia. 1. A Unique and Beautiful Cathedral  The …

Easter in Guanajuato, Mexico

This is our third Easter away from Bristol. In 2015, we spent it in the quiet town of Debrecen, Hungary. Last year we celebrated with some friends in China, where Easter isn’t celebrated. This year, we’re in the beautiful town of Guanajuato, Mexico. The town is super busy due to the holidays but it has an exciting atmosphere. Exploring Guanajuato Guanajuato is in a ravine. The town is down in the bottom of the ravine and many tunnels link the city. We’re staying on one of the many hills on the edge of the city. This means it’s lovely and …

Thoughts about my time (so far!) in Mexico

We’ve now been in Mexico for just over five weeks. It’s gone extremely quickly and I’m already worrying about how little time we have left with a whole bunch of places left that I still want to see. We’re currently in Guadalajara, Mexico’s second-biggest city. Apart from nice weather, a Spanish-speaking population, and tacos, I wasn’t really sure what to expect from Mexico. Here are some thoughts …

Touching Down in Mexico City

Landing in Mexico City We landed at 4 am in Mexico City, earlier than we were scheduled to do so. Our flight with Aeromexico had been very smooth and we even managed to sleep a fair amount on the plane. The queue for immigration was long but we finally made it through and got our luggage about 5.15am. Google Maps informed us of a quick and easy route to get to our hostel. We arrived at 7am, unsure if we could get into our room, but thankfully we could. We flopped onto the bed, exhausted from the 12-hour flight. It was …

Goodbye Bristol, Hola Mexico!

Goodbye Bristol After spending nearly three whole months in Bristol, Mitch and I are off again. I love Bristol, I always will. However, we have the opportunity to work and travel. Travelling is one of my passions and being able to do that while I earn a living is pretty damn awesome. So for now, I wave goodbye to Bristol, my family, friends, and the good times I had in the past few months, and say hello to a new chapter for 2017. Hola, Mexico! While Mexico didn’t feature on my places to visit in 2017, it’s the gateway to …
